Trend Alert: Food Station Wedding Receptions

Not all weddings have to include a sit-down meal where everyone is served the same sides of asparagus and fingerling potatoes. If you're uninspired by run-of-the-mill wedding fare, consider having a cocktail-style reception

Waiters circulate the room with platters of appetizers during cocktail hour and then, rather than sitting down to assigned tables, diners are invited to visit multiple food stations and can graze at their leisure.

Imagine butter chicken and aloo gobi over here; foie gras and steak frites over there; and, oooh, a build-your-own burrito station! People can sample a variety of dishes and choose what -- and when -- they want to eat.

This reception structure also makes it easier to mingle, since guests, not to mention the bride and groom, aren't parked in one spot during dinner and speeches.

Choose foods that have special significance to you as a couple: an homage to your heritage, cuisine that is reminiscent of your favorite travel destination or a signature dish that you and your spouse love to cook together.

Top the evening off with a dessert buffet that offers a variety of sweet treats. Or, keep the food station theme going and offer a candy buffet, crepe station, a s'mores station, a cupcake table...the possibilities really are endless!

You will create a memorable dining experience for your guests and they will all leave with satisfied taste buds.
