Groom Gets 6 Years In Jail For Torching Reception Venue

Wow! Meet the world's worst groom EVER

A British property developer will spend 6 years in jail for setting his wedding reception castle on fire last year after a fight over the bar tab.

After downing a reported 20 double vodka sodas, Max Kay, 37, torched the drawing room of Peckforton Castle Hotel in Cheshire on his wedding night. His new wife slept in the bridal suite, located directly above the drawing room.

"Having been made bankrupt, you embarked upon a wedding that would involve paying a figure of approximately £25,000 ($39,000) for a ceremony you could nowhere near afford," said Judge Roger Dutton after sentencing Kay in court on Wednesday.

The fight began when the venue staff, aware that Kay had difficulty paying his bills, refused to keep the bar open past 10pm.

The fire, which started at 4:45am on June 19, 2011, caused $9 million in damages. It took eight months to restore the castle's drawing room, library, bar and several upstairs rooms, including the bridal suite.

No one was injured, but 70 family and friends evacuated the castle and stood on the lawn at 5am (some still in wedding garb; others in their pajamas) as 20 fire trucks worked to stop the blaze

Needless to say, the couple have already separated.
