When Marj Albrighton got married in 1949, she wore an old suit to the city hall ceremony. She longed for a big white wedding, but she and her husband, Arthur, were young and broke.
Fast forward 64 years, and Marj got a second chance at her big day last weekend. Her husband re-proposed while recovering in hospital after a health scare. The retired miner wanted to give his sweetheart the traditional bash she'd always dreamed of.
The English couple, both 83, pulled out all the stops, complete with bachelorette party and bridesmaids. They held the vow renewal in an abbey, Arthur going down the aisle on crutches following hip surgery.
"It was everything I ever dreamed of. To hear the church bells ringing was amazing. I was on cloud nine. I still am," Marj told the Birmingham Mail.
Good things do come to those who wait!
